Sand Tray

Sand tray therapy is a nonverbal, expressive therapeutic technique in which clients use miniature figures and objects to create scenes in a shallow tray of sand. This hands-on approach allows people to externalize inner experiences, explore emotions, and process trauma, often without needing to put feelings into words. It can be used with children, adolescents, and adults and is adaptable for individual, group, or family therapy. The therapist observes and supports the client’s choices, helping them reflect on symbolism, patterns, and possible changes. Sand tray therapy fosters insight, emotional regulation, and empowerment through creative, tactile engagement.
